Cookies and local storage
What this site keeps on your device, what our booking partners keep once you leave, and what will change when saved ryokans arrive.
What we use today
This site sets no cookies of its own. We run no advertising, no tracking pixels and no social media embeds, and we do not build profiles of readers.
Our traffic measurement is Cloudflare Web Analytics. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device; a small measurement script runs on the page and reports anonymous page views and loading speed. Ad blockers commonly block it, which is fine by us.
Our network provider, Cloudflare, may set a strictly necessary cookie for security and abuse prevention. That kind of cookie keeps the site available and is not used to track you across other sites.
What booking partners use
When you follow a link to a booking partner, you leave this site. At that point the partner may set cookies or similar identifiers, both to attribute the booking to us and for their own purposes. We do not control those, we cannot read them, and the partner's own cookie and privacy policies apply from the moment you arrive on their page.
Saved ryokans
A saved list is not available yet. When it arrives, it is intended to work without an account: the inns you save are stored in your own browser using local storage, stay on that device, and are never sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes them, and there is nothing for us to delete because we never receive the list.
If we ever offer syncing across devices, that would require an account and would mean us holding personal data. We would not switch that on quietly: it would be announced here and in the privacy policy before it happened, and it would remain optional.
Managing what is stored
Every browser lets you block or delete cookies and clear site data, usually under privacy or site settings. Blocking data for this site costs you nothing today, since the pages do not depend on it. Once saved ryokans exist, clearing site data will also clear your saved list.
Browser-level controls such as tracking protection and do-not-track signals work normally here, because there is nothing on our side for them to fight.
Changes
If what we store changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top is updated. If a change ever requires your consent, we will ask before it takes effect rather than after.
