Privacy policy
We run a small site with no accounts and no newsletter, so there is little to collect. Here is what there is.
Who is responsible
This site is operated by Japan Best Ryokan, Tokyo, Japan. For any question about this policy or your personal data, write to info@japanbestryokan.com.
What we collect
We try to collect as little as possible.
- Server and security logs. Our host and network provider, Cloudflare, processes technical data such as IP address, browser type and the page requested, in order to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
- Aggregate analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It sets no cookies, uses no device identifiers, and does not follow you to other sites.
- Correspondence. If you email us, we keep your message and address for as long as needed to deal with it.
We do not run accounts, newsletters or comment forms, so we hold no passwords and no subscriber lists. We do not sell personal data to anyone.
Booking partners
When you follow a booking link, you leave this site. The partner may set cookies or similar identifiers to attribute the booking to us, and from that point their privacy policy governs what happens to your data, including anything you enter to make a reservation. We never receive your payment details.
Cookies and local storage
This site sets no cookies of its own, and runs no advertising or tracking pixels. Booking partners may set their own once you follow a link to them. Our cookies page sets out the detail, including how a saved-ryokans list would work if we add one.
Legal bases and your rights
We handle personal data under Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information. Because many of our readers are overseas, we also aim to meet the standards of the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation where it applies. Our basis for processing the limited data above is our legitimate interest in running a secure, functioning website, or your consent where consent is required.
You may ask us what data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to our processing it. Write to the address above and we will respond. If you are in the EU or UK, you also have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority.
Retention
Logs are kept for as long as our provider retains them, typically a short period. Email correspondence is kept while it is relevant and then deleted.
Children
This site is intended for adults planning travel and is not directed at children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be described here rather than made quietly.
